These are two very rough paragraphs for my essay:

  1. Through the relationship between Esteban Trueba and Clara , the author, Allende, portrays opposing opinions throughout the novel.

Throughout the novel Allende speaks about many different aspects of chiles history including Social, political, economic, religious and military issues. Not only does she cover all of these aspects in her novel but she makes sure that the opinions and ideas of every type of person in chile are heard in order to make her novel a more honest and thourough history of chile. The two most reoccuring and opposing opinions are those of Clara and her husband Esteban during the course of the novel.

  2. In conclusion, Allende manages to successfully portray at least two strong opinions that reoccur throughout the novel, those of Clara and Esteban. Clara is speaking for the liberals while Esteban voices the opinion of the conservatives. Clara is the gentle, caring, loving parent while Esteban is the strict, disciplinedand firm parent. Esteban cares more about material goods, his land, his money, what he owns while Clara cares about people and their spirits. Esteban takes everything quite literally while Clara is looking for a different meaning.

Between the two of them, Allende manages to get across most sides of the story that she is trying to tell, Thus making the book more thourough and well -rounded.

Interesting points. Keep working with them and try talking about them to the others in the class so that you can clarify exactly what it is you want to say.
